Olivia Kay Mote

Attorney Mote is an associate in the firm. She concentrates her practice in the areas of business and nonprofit law, estate planning, family law, and employment and civil rights (including gender identity and sexual orientation). As a former college educator, she also welcomes the opportunity to assist in education-related matters, whether PreK-12 or postsecondary. Olivia is also a certified First Steps® Advance Care Planning Facilitator, trained by the Wisconsin Medical Society to assist individuals in identifying and communicating how they wish for decisions to be made about their care if they become unable, even temporarily, to advocate for themselves.  Advance care planning can help clients avoid costly guardianship proceedings in addition to providing peace of mind for individuals and their loved ones.

Olivia is the daughter and granddaughter of community-minded small business owners. During law school she advised entrepreneurs and early-stage companies as a student associate at the University of Wisconsin Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic. She also gained experience in-house as a legal intern for a health care IT company, in state government at the Department of Public Instruction, and in non-profits internships, as well as through various pro bono programs at the University of Wisconsin.

Prior to attending law school, Olivia earned a master's degree from Miami University, then went on to serve as an adjunct professor in comparative religion. As a supplement to her legal training, Olivia also pursued coursework in the field of education and continued to teach about diverse cultures and worldviews as a graduate assistant in the UW Religious Studies Program. Informed by these rich experiences, Olivia strives to handle client matters with empathy and efficiency.
